About
To my practice as a pastoral supervisor I bring my experience of parish and hospital chaplaincy ministry in the Anglican tradition. I trained at Ridley College and was ordained in Melbourne in 1974. I have ministered in parishes in Melbourne, Adelaide and Willochra Dioceses and for many years as a Public Hospital Chaplain at the Flinders Medical Centre and Royal Adelaide Hospital. I retired from full time ministry in 2015.
My supervisory training began in 1988 in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) model. Between 2020 and 2023 I lectured in the practice of individual and group supervision in the Charles Sturt University Graduate Certificate in Professional Supervision. I am currently an emeritus Clinical Pastoral Education Consultant (CPE) and a Supervisor Trainer member of the Australasian Association of Supervision.
The walk on the Emmaus Road offers me a Biblical model for Pastoral Supervision which has been described as "a relationship between two or more disciples who meet to consider the ministry of one ... of them in an intentional and disciplined way" (Pastoral Supervision, Leach & Patterson p.1). My supervisory stance focuses on the supervisee's "soul" (motivation and vocation), "role" (supervisee's ministry practice and its impact on those ministered to) and "context" (the environment in which ministry is exercised). Through the practice of pastoral supervision I aim to assist the supervisee's learning, reflection on their ministry identity and the integration of their faith and practice.
